Book Review: On Drums by Kevin Rabas
Emporia’s very own, Kevin Rabas, has a new poetry collection out from Woodley Press titled: On Drums. Kevin Rabas has been the Kansas Poet Laureate, and currently chairs the department of English, Modern Languages, and Journalism at Emporia State University where he is a Creative Writing Professor. He teaches courses in the poetry and playwriting tracks.
In this recent collection of poems, Rabas gives us snapshots of many areas of life from music to family to nature and wilderness. All of these poems are infused with his unique style of jazz-like lyricism. While each of these poems are written in this style, they are easily accessible and relatable to anyone who happens to pick up this collection. Many can relate to getting braces, traveling to New York, or heading to the gym to work out. Kevin Rabas has given us a collection of poems that truly mirror everyday life. With this collection it is easy to see why his work is meaningful to people from all different walks of life.
Kevin is the author of ten poetry collections, and this recent collection doesn't disappoint. If you would like to check out any of the books he has written, head on over to Ellen Plumb's City Bookstore and pick up a copy or two. As always we thank you for shopping local, and for supporting our local authors.
